LONG-TIME SOLANA BEACH OFFICIAL BACKS ROCKY
SOLANA BEACH—Mayor Joe Kellejian, an elected city official in Solana Beach for nearly twenty years, has endorsed Rocky Chavez in his race for California Assembly, District 76. Kellejian was first elected to the city council in 1992 and currently serves as council-appointed mayor.
“Rocky Chavez is dedicated to our communities – and he has the experience needed to be successful in Sacramento,” said Kellejian. “I’m proud to endorse Rocky as our next Assemblyman from North County.”
During his time in office, Kellejian has fought for expansions for schools and transportation improvements within the region, including railway and freeway enhancements.

Things are heating up in the race for the 76th Assembly District where Republicans Rocky Chavez and Sherry Hodges this week each received key endorsements.
Hodges, a former aide to several local lawmakers, snagged the coveted endorsement of the Republican Party of San Diego County, no small feat in a race that pits two of its own party against each other. County GOP Chairman Tony Krvaric said in a written statement that the party was proud to endorse Hodges for the district that spans from Encinitas to Oceanside to Vista, taking in Carlsbad and Camp Pendleton.
The party endorsement, which came without a vote to spare, was not without controversy. A last-minute bit of campaigning by Hodges’ supporters included distributing a flier featuring a photograph of Chavez, Democratic Rep. Bob Filner and Sgt. Maj. William “Movin’” Vann <http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/jun/28/black-marines-from-1940s-take-hill/> receiving a certificate of special congressional recognition as the 2010 nominee for Veteran of the Year from the Montford Point Marine Association, Chapter 12.

LOCAL REPUBLICAN ACTIVIST BACKS ROCKY
CARSLBAD—Judy Rees, past president of Carlsbad Republican Women Federated and current chair of the San Diego Republican Party’s Membership Recruitment, has endorsed Rocky Chavez in his bid for California Assembly, District 76.
Rees was also a candidate for the San Diego GOP’s Central Committee in the June primary, becoming the second highest vote getter. She now serves as an alternate member.
“As an alternate member of the Central Committee, one of my major goals is to let voters be heard. I’m proud to support Rocky Chavez, in part because of the overwhelming support he has received from voters in the district.” Rees said.
Chavez finished first in California’s June primary, more than 4,000 votes ahead of the nearest candidate.
Rees has been a Carlsbad Resident for more than 25 years – and has been active in Republican circles throughout that time. As Chair of Membership Recruitment for the county, Rees plans to leverage her relationships to increase Republican voter registration and drive Republicans to the polls on Election Day in November.

FARRAH DOUGLAS ENDORSES ROCKY CHAVEZ
CARLSBAD—Carlsbad City Councilwoman Farrah Douglas today announced that she is supporting Rocky Chavez in the race for California Assembly, District 76, asking all her supporters and voters of the district to vote for Rocky Chavez. Douglas said Chavez’s leadership experience and character make him ready to represent North San Diego County voters in Sacramento.
“Rocky is a candidate with high moral character and exceptional ethical standards as witnessed by the 76th District voters and families during the primary election. He has integrity and experience and knows how to lead,” said Douglas. “Like me, Rocky Chavez believes we need to focus on jobs and the economy – and that our students deserve a quality education.”
Farrah Douglas was first elected to the Carlsbad City Council in 2010 and won her seat by receiving the largest number of votes in city history. Douglas truly embodies the American Dream, escaping oppression in her native country of Iran in 1979 and later starting a successful printing business with her husband which has been open for twenty-two years. She has been an advocate for economic reforms – to bring back jobs and hold government accountable. And as someone who worked to put herself through college and graduate school, she stands for education reform to allow California students to succeed in college and careers.
Newly redrawn California Assembly District 76 is made up of Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas and Camp Pendleton. Douglas was one of three candidates seeking to represent the district in California’s June primary.
“I am humbled by the support of Farrah Douglas, someone who has met great challenges in her life while making a difference in business and government,” said Chavez. “She truly cares for her community, and I know she will continue to be a leader.”
Chavez served as a Marine Colonel, retiring after twenty-eight years, and later became California’s Veterans Affairs Secretary. He also spent nearly a decade as an elected Oceanside City Council member. His campaign is focused on job growth, education, veterans issues and government accountability.
ROCKY GETS BIG SUPPORT AT HOME
OCEANSIDE—Assemblyman Martin Garrick, first elected in 2006 and named Republican Leader in 2010, has endorsed Rocky Chavez in the race to succeed him as North County’s representative in Sacramento. Chavez finished first in last month’s primary election and has received the support of dozens of local and state officials. Chavez served nearly 30 years as a United States Marine, retiring as a Colonel – and later headed the state’s Veterans Affairs Department.
“Rocky Chavez is the best choice to represent North County in Sacramento,” said Garrick. “It’s been a great honor to serve the people of our communities, and I know Rocky will continue in our efforts to fight for responsible, limited government and to help put Californians back to work.”
Garrick currently serves in California’s 74th District, redrawn by this year’s redistricting to include most of the new 76th District.
During his time in Sacramento, Garrick championed a “no new taxes” budget that reduced government spending and contained budget/pension reforms. As Assembly Republican Leader, Garrick led the Republican Caucus in a California Jobs First campaign aimed at job growth. Before taking office Garrick started successful businesses in telecommunications and real estate and also served as an appointee in the Reagan Administration.
“It’s truly a privilege to receive the support of Assemblyman Martin Garrick,” said Chavez. “Like Assemblyman Garrick, I’ll fight to hold government accountable and to create an economic climate in California where jobs are created – not outsourced.”
